By concluding the Agreement between the Government of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam and the Swiss Federation Council on the protection of intellectual property and on cooperation in the field of intellectual property (IP) dated 07 July 1999, over the last decade since 2001, the Swiss Government has offered to Viet Nam a special technical assistance by a Special Cooperation Program on intellectual property (SPC Programme), which was implemented from 2001 to 2006, and a Swiss - Vietnamese Intellectual Property Project (SVIP Project), from 2007 to 2010. The purposes of these Projects are to support Viet Nam in comprehensively enhancing the capacity of its IP system, accordingly preparing conditions for the implementation of obligations and commitments provided for in international IP treaties to which Viet Nam is a party, especially TRIPS Agreement. The SPC Programme and SVIP Project assisted Viet Nam in improving IP legal framework, enhancing IP management and enforcement capacity as well as public awareness, promoting traditional knowledge protection, developing and protecting geographical indications and encouraging the use of IP in universities.

He was also pleased with positive results of the Project and appreciated efforts made by the Implementing Agencies of both sides during the implementation of the Project.
Mr. Alain Burdet, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Switzerland, reiterated Switzerland’s high appreciation of the longstanding, excellent cooperation with Viet Nam in the field of intellectual property.
