On 13 November 2008, a high level delegation of the National Committee of Science and Technology of Laos headed by Mr. Maydorn Chanthanasinh, Vice President, visited the NOIP.

At the meeting, the two sides exchanged, updated information relating to the IP system of the two countries, points of view about issues of mutual interests, discussed cooperative possibilities between the two countries in the field of intellectual property in the coming time. Mr. Maydorn Chanthanasinh expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese Government for its precious and enthusiasm assistance and help rendered to Laos in the field of intellectual property over the past years and wished to continuously receive the attention and support of Viet Nam in the coming time, especially in the context that Laos was under negotiations for the accession to the World Trade Organization and at the first steps to implement obligations within the framework of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) and researching to apply GI protection. Mr. Chanthanasinh said that the consolidation of the bilateral relation on intellectual property will contribute to strengthening the cooperation and friendship between Viet Nam and Laos.

Director General Tran Viet Hung expressed and emphasized the interest and special appreciation of Viet Nam to the relationship with the relative country of Laos in general and in the field of intellectual property in particular. He informed his Lao friends of latest developments of the IP system of Viet Nam with regard to legal framework as well as examination of applications being a member of the WTO and expressed his willing to cooperate and help Laos to develop the IP system, contributing to exploiting the cooperative potentials between the two countries in the field.

The two sides considered the meeting as a start of the new period of cooperation between the two countries in the field of intellectual property and basis to identify areas of cooperation at the working level.
